Ayiti Reve Gwo / Haiti Dreams Big

At Haiti Cultural Exchange, Haiti's final World Cup game didn't feel like an ending. Artists, designers, neighbors, families, fanatiks foutbòll, and first-time visitors settled in the HCX gallery and garden. Regine Roumain and the HCX team have spent years creating and nurturing that most special of space where designers like Demar Altenor and Garvenchy Nicolas are finding new ways to express Haitian identity, and building a life and creative practices within the community. Everyone came hoping for one goal. They got more. Haiti scored twice. People rose from the floor, shouted, clapped, danced. People saw themselves in one another. The result no longer defined the night. Tonight, Haiti and football gave something to celebrate. It showed that wonderful things can happen for Haiti. It gave us all hope. Ayiti reve gwo. Haiti dreams big.
