Mexico vs Ecuador

On Roosevelt Avenue, three restaurants: KUSA Auténtico Sabor Ecuatoriano, Papi Pico Pollo, and Taqueria Chila. Three families. Ecuadorian and Mexican. Each built with hard work, pride, and love. Each creating a piece of home in New York while becoming part of something larger together.

On the night Ecuador played Mexico, we moved between all three, through kitchens and dining rooms, between plates of food and nervous eyes fixed on the screen. Each place had its own colors, its own flavors, its own loyalties. But together, they told a larger story about Roosevelt Avenue.

Here, immigrant businesses don't simply exist next to one another. They grow alongside one another. They feed a neighborhood. They hold memories and traditions. They become gathering places, workplaces, family businesses, and pieces of home.

For the game, Ecuador and Mexico were opponents. But beyond the score, these three restaurants reminded us of everything that is built together, day after day, on the same avenue. What grows us together is bigger than the game.
