Beyond MetLife Stadium

You might know it as Giants Stadium, or the Meadowlands, or MetLife Stadium, depending on your age and team allegiance. For the 2026 World Cup it’s been temporarily renamed NY/NJ Stadium. As nearly an estimated 2 billion people tune-in to the stadium for the World Cup Final, we visit the community just beyond the stadium's gates, East Rutherford. Population 10,566.

Stadium neighbor and avid runner, Medoune, takes us to Eros Cafe to meet owners, Rhea, and Dimitri. Eros is an absolute gem. Here Mediterranean flavors blend harmoniously with Caribbean vibes. The result is Greek - Latin cuisine. It’s a unique marriage that feels like something that could only happen in New York - New Jersey.

We capped off the day with a spread of perfectly grilled Lamb Chomps alongside tostones and yucca, topped with mojo and caramelized red onions, beef and lamb empanadas, seafood paella, and homemade pita with tzatziki sauce. To wash it down Dimitri paired it all perfectly with the criminally under-valued Moschofilero wine from Ktima Voyatzi. We’ll be back. And we’re bringing friends.
