Haiti is the only Caribbean nation to have qualified for the World Cup more than once. For Haitians, football has always been more than football. It carries memories of home, of migration, of what could have been, and of what still might be. Von King Park in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, filled with rhythms, flags, conversations, dancing, football, and families gathering under the trees to see Haiti play Brazil. It was Juneteenth, and you could not see where the crowd ended and where it began.
